Devipuram Vizag – Complete Travel Guide

Devipuram Vizag

Introduction

Devipuram Vizag is known for the Sri Sahasrakshi Rajarajeshwari Temple, which represents Shakti worship in a distinctive form.

Devipuram is a renowned spiritual and cultural center located near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Established in the late 20th century, it is dedicated to Goddess Sahasrakshi and Lord Kameshwara, embodying the principles of Sri Vidya tradition. The temple complex is unique for its three‑dimensional Sri Chakra Maha Meru, which serves as the central shrine and symbolizes the cosmic energy of the goddess.

Unlike conventional temples, Devipuram emphasizes inclusivity and spiritual empowerment. It is designed not only as a place of worship but also as a learning center where devotees can explore meditation, rituals, and the philosophy of Sri Vidya. The serene surroundings and innovative architecture make it a distinctive destination for seekers of both devotion and knowledge.

For visitors, Devipuram offers a transformative experience. The temple’s focus on equality, spiritual practice, and community service sets it apart, making it a hub for those who wish to deepen their understanding of Shakti worship while enjoying the peaceful environment of rural Andhra Pradesh.

Description

Devipuram was founded by Sri Amritananda Natha Saraswati (Dr. N.V. Raghavan), a nuclear scientist turned spiritual teacher. After experiencing a profound vision of Goddess Sahasrakshi, he dedicated his life to building a temple that would embody the principles of Sri Vidya and empower devotees through direct spiritual practice.

Construction of Devipuram began in the 1980s, with the central shrine designed as a three‑dimensional Sri Chakra Maha Meru. This architectural innovation was unprecedented, as it allowed devotees to physically walk through the sacred geometry of the Sri Chakra, symbolizing the journey from the outer material world to the inner spiritual core.

The temple complex includes shrines dedicated to various deities, but its central focus remains on Goddess Sahasrakshi. Devotees believe that worship here grants spiritual awakening, inner peace, and divine blessings. The temple also emphasizes inclusivity, allowing women and lay devotees to perform rituals traditionally reserved for priests.

Over the years, Devipuram has grown into a spiritual learning center. Workshops, meditation programs, and Sri Vidya initiations are conducted regularly, attracting seekers from across India and abroad. The temple’s philosophy encourages self‑realization and empowerment, making it a modern yet deeply traditional spiritual hub.

The founder, Sri Amritananda, envisioned Devipuram as a place where spirituality could be practiced without barriers of caste, gender, or social status. His teachings emphasized that divine energy resides within everyone, and rituals at Devipuram are designed to help devotees connect with this inner divinity.

Today, Devipuram stands as a symbol of spiritual innovation and inclusivity. It continues to attract thousands of visitors annually, offering them a chance to experience the unique blend of tradition, geometry, and devotion. Its legacy reflects the vision of its founder — a temple that is both a sanctuary of worship and a school of spiritual empowerment.
